Cat packed with potential

CABOOLTURE: A local boat building company has developed a new catamaran with a major point of difference.
Winning Yachts shipped the first of its 12m aluminium catamarans on Wednesday to Palau, in the Western Pacific.
Once there, the boat will be used by the US-backed Coral Reef Research Foundation as sea transport for two mini-submarines operating between points in the foundation's research area.
But the catamaran is unique because it can be dismantled and placed into a 40-foot shipping container.
``Because it can fit into such a tight container, it means we can economically send it pretty much anywhere in the world,'' Chrisella Sbrizzi, of Winning Yachts said.
Ms Sbrizzi said the catamaran could be adapted for other vehicle transport roles, as well as dive tender and fast response units.
``We've even been approached by (US reality series) Survivor who want to use the catamaran for carrying camera crews,'' she said.
